NFL Plans Rule Crackdown After Lions-Chiefs Controversy: Insider

The Detroit Lions' season opening officiating angered many fans when Kansas City Chiefs lineman Jawaan Taylor seemed to gain an early jump.

Sports Illustrated said that former NFL executive Dean Blandino said the league will tighten down on offensive linemen improperly lining up early on the snap.

Former NFL vice president of officiating Blandino stated Taylor was not the first offensive lineman to violate the pre-snap line.

Several tackles from the Thursday night game with Jawaan Taylor (and on the film this week) are too far back.

In Week 2, the training DVD reinforced that, Blandino stated. Officials view that training film, in my experience.

The Lions led 21-20 on a 4th-and-20 play late in the fourth quarter.
