Reports: Former WR Mike Williams alive and on life support
Mike Williams, a former NFL wide receiver, is on life support in a Tampa hospital after being injured in a construction accident last week.
Despite many death announcements, Williams is still breathing in the intensive care unit.
Tierney Lyle, Williams' daughter, said that she and her mother had visited Williams, but that he was unresponsive during their visit.
He was sleeping when we entered, but when he heard my voice and his daughter's, he woke up, as Lyle explained.
According to a GoFundMe page purportedly set up by Williams' father after the incident, the younger Williams was paralyzed from the waist down and lost use of his right arm when a steel beam landed on his head.
Williams, now 36, was born in Buffalo and attended neighboring Syracuse University as a student-athlete.
As a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he emerged as a star in 2010. That year, he caught 65 receptions for 964 yards and 11 touchdowns.
His tally of touchdown receptions in a season was a club record, and he finished second in Offensive Rookie of the Year voting.
