Trade Proposal Sees Cowboys Land Chiefs’ Disgruntled $80 Million Star
One of the best defensive ends in the NFL might want to play for the Dallas Cowboys.
Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report said that the Cowboys "should pursue" Chris Johnson, a defensive tackle for the Kansas City Chiefs, in a possible deal.
Jones is sitting out because he is unhappy with his contract and wants a new one that will pay him $30 million per year. Jones is in the final year of a contract that pays him $20 million this season.
Gagnon says that getting Jones, who was third in the vote for Defensive Player of the Year last year, would be a "huge upgrade" on the inside. Gagnon says that a first-round draft pick should be enough money to get Jones.
Jones would probably cost them a first-round pick, maybe even starting Osa Odighizuwa, who is in his third year.
But he would be a big step up in that spot," Gagnon writes. "And if Dallas really thinks he can help them win the Super Bowl (keep in mind that pick would come at the end of Round 1), it would be more than worth it.
Also, the Cowboys have a lot of salary cap room. According to Spotrac, they have $17.7 million in cap space, which is the sixth-most in the NFL.
This should encourage them to make a move for Jones as they head into a season with Dak Prescott and Mike McCarthy that could be a Super Bowl or bust.
